Solutions
for the production
of solvents
and oils
The
cloudpoint is a characteristic parameter for the solid and
solvent systems. A stronger solvent should solvate a solid
better and thus the cloudpoint must be lower. Therefore,
cloudpoint determinations are used to test the compatibility of
many systems and are very important for the stability of many
formulations.
The
development of the automatic cloudpoint tester CHEMOTRONIC is an
important step towards exact and efficient determination of this
parameter.

Automatic
solubility measurements
To
start a test, a glass test tube is filled with a definied
portion of solid particles and a definied portion of solvent.
When the test tube is inserted into the instrument, the stirring
by a magnetic stirring rod starts and the solid particles are
dissolved by the solvent and by heating up to a safe top
temperature below to the boiling point of the solvent.
When
all particles have been dissolved, the test tube is cooled down
at a constant rate. At a certain temperature precipitation in
the solution will happen and this will be detected by a
sensitive photoelectric cell.
Simultaneously,
the cloudpoint temperature is printed out on paper by an
integrated data printer. The accuracy and consistency of this
method has been approved by comprehensive round-robin-tests. It
is an important test to reduce aromatics in solvents in order to
comply to the international volatile organic compounds (VOC)
regulations.
