Computer
controlled emulsification tester LITHOTRONIC
An
emulsion is per definition a dispension of two non-soluable
substances in the liquid phase and this is common for many
liquid or semi-liquid end products like cosmetics, cleaners,
creams, pastes and food stuff.
In
most cases one of the liquids is water or an aqeous solution and
the water content is an important factor for the physical
properties of the emulsion. In these cases, it is important to
test the rheological behaviour of emulsions at various levels of
water content.
The
LITHOTRONIC has been developed to determine viscosity changes of
emulsions at various water content levels.
In
order to perform automatic measurements, the instrument has an
integrated hose pump coupled to a gravimetrical control system
for precise liquid dispension. The liquid is weighed by a
digital balance that is interfaced to a computer and the speed
of the pump is controlled at the desired dispension rate
within a range of 1 - 10 ml/min.
Then
the liquid is dispensed into a measuring cup with the sample in
which a propeller spindle is inserted. The propeller spindle is
coupled to a precision motor and a torque transducer to measure
viscosity changes at various speeds and shear rates.
The
temperature of the sample is controlled by thermoelectronic
cooling and heating of the platform in which the measuring cup
can be fixed.
The
computer software for the LITHOTRONIC instrument is offering
various operation modes:
- continuous dispension (1 - 10
g/min)
- discontinuous dispension (1 - 100
g/min)
- batch dispension at
different rates (20 g/min max.)
All
system modules are operating accurately and reliably. The
measuring results can be visualized on screen, saved on disk and
printed out as a complete test report.
